Men: Leading by Example Posted On 19 November 2021

International Men’s Day

November 19th marks International Men’s Day and celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their families, and communities. It is celebrated in around 80 countries worldwide. The aim is to highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being.

International Men’s Day focuses on the following objectives: valuing male role models, acknowledging the contribution of men and boys, improving male health, tackling discrimination and disadvantage, fostering positive gender relations, and making the world a safer place for everyone. The theme for 2021 is ‘better relations between men and women’.

International Men’s Day is a perfect opportunity for you to:

Highlight some of the social issues that men and boys face
Make a difference for the men and boys in your community
Celebrate men and boys in all their diversity
Have lots of fun
International Men’s Day has run since 1999 and methods of celebrating have ranged from public seminars, forums, conferences, festivals and fundraisers to classroom activities at school. How you choose to celebrate is up to you. Perhaps you could write letters or cards to your friends, family, and people you admire to tell them how much you value them. Why not download this appreciation award certificate?

International Men’s Day propose that one person must propose the award and then two others must agree and second the decision to make sure the awards only go to those who are truly worthy!

Why not share what you’re up to on social media using the #TalkingAboutMen?  Or challenge your friends, families, and colleagues by giving a ‘Know Your Man Facts Presentation’? The presentation has been prepared for you so never fear! The focus is on Men’s Mental Health and covers facts, things to do and not to do, as well as a know your man facts quiz. If you would like a copy of the presentation email: kim@amhf.org.au for the full powerpoint.
